We had good weather this weekend; not what was predicted at all. That was a pleasant surprise. Saturday was pretty uneventful, although I did go to a Relief Society Meeting in the evening. We went out visiting some sisters and came back to the chapel to watch the General Relief Society Broadcast. They couldn't get the satellite to work, so I went home without seeing it. Sunday I attended church in Cornish and Eris went with me. It was a beautiful drive as usual and they fed us with a linger longer after meetings and before our meeting with their RS Presidency. The new members of the our stake RS presidency were set apart by President Thomas. My blessing was very interesting and very long. I wish that I could remember it better - but he did bless me in missionary work and temple work and with health and strength. Also, he said that they commended me for my service.

Movie quote of the week:
From "That Thing You Do"
Lenny: Where was I? Oh yeah, playing songs on my guitar.
Our family discovered this movie several years after it came out and it is one of our all time favorites. My husband and I grew up in the 60s so we love this music, most of which was written by Tom Hanks. We also quote Lenny (Steve Zahn) often. What a funny guy!

Eliza and family and the missionaries from church came over for supper last night. We had pizza and chips and soda, a longtime Governale Friday night tradition. Now, what to fix for Friday? It was fun to have company. I am trying to wash and dry all of my cotton fabric and get it on shelves in my sewing room. I did three loads yesterday – washing and drying is easy – it is the folding that takes a very long time. It will be so wonderful to see all the colors, all the choices, and imagine the possibilities when this project is done. Sometimes I will open the sewing room door just to gaze at the fabric already on the shelves. Have I mentioned that I love fabric! Sometimes a piece will make my heart skip a beat and cause me to say “Awwwww”. (You know that universal sound that women make whenever they see a little baby!)

Yesterday was uneventful. Today will be interesting. Most of you know that I had surgery in July. It was because I had uterine cancer. They think they got it all, but I will be having radiation therapy and chemotherapy over the next few months. I have my first radiation treatment today. From what they tell me, I definitely will be tired and I definitely will lose all my hair (Ah, the blessings of working remotely!) I was also warned about chemobrain – oh, dear! There is no way to predict how my body will react to the treatments so all I can say is that I will work as regularly as I can and be as optimistic and cheerful as possible.

It rained very hard yesterday on the way down and back from my appointment. The worst part of the radiation treatment was having to lay flat on my back for about a half hour, the best part was that they cranked up Billy Joel music for me to listen to. They insert the tube and then x-ray me to make sure it is in the right place, then a guy comes in with a radiation detector and waved it over me to make sure than I am not coming into the treatment with any radiation in me. Then they transfer me to a stretcher and roll me to the radiation room. They hook up the machine, crank up the music, lower the lights and all leave the room. Once it is over the same guy comes in and checks me for radiation again. Once it was clear, then the others come in. One down, two to go!
I shopped at WalMart on the way home, ate supper, had devotional with my husband and read a couple of chapters to him. I was very tired, fell asleep too early and was up at 3am finishing up some cards to mail out to my visiting teaching sisters.

Well, if one cancer wasn’t enough – they have discovered that I also have breast cancer. Still waiting to see what will be done about that. Looks like the rest of this year will not be listed in my journal as one of my favorite times. :) Friday was a pretty good day. I mostly tried to catch up on some hours for WGU. My husband and I watched the last half of Jane Eyre and the first half of an episode of Rough Diamond. Talk about disjointed! Seminary went well. I indexed two batches of Maine Vital Records before bed. And now it is Saturday.
Monday 03 October 2011
It was a great weekend for me. I watched 8 hours of uplifting and motivating talks during General Conference, got to do some extra preparation for seminary, and finished indexing two batches of Maine Vital Records. I also chose the photos that I will use for Christmas cards this year. I always choose an old family photo, great-great grandparents, etc., to use on the front of the cards I send to family. This will be the seventh year I have done that and everyone seems to enjoy them. It is one way of sharing some of the great old photos I have collected over the years. I got a phone call from my three-year-old granddaughter Sarah last night saying the words that every ‘hip’ grandmother wants to hear, “Gramma, I want to Skype!”

Movie quote of the week:
Maria Portokalos: Nicko! Don't play with the food! When I was your age, we didn't have food!
From My Big Fat Greek Wedding -another favorite movie.
Monday was just Monday. Rhoby called and we talked for over an hour. It was fun to catch up with her. My husband and I watched a very strange Danish movie last night with English subtitles called The Trollhunter. My sons had watched it. All I can say is, “That’s two hours of my life that I will never get back”. We had a yummy supper; oven fried garlic potatoes, popcorn fish, and broccoli.
Wednesday 05 October 2011
It was a great Tuesday for me. Things were pretty calm around here, we had good food, watched an episode of The Guardian, taught and prepared seminary, and worked for 6 hours. Sounds pretty boring as I write it down. I did skype with Joe this morning – that was a nice start to the day.
Thursday 06 October 2011
I put the binding on 13 baby hats yesterday while Nancy sewed together 5 hats and then my husband took them to the hospital. That was a good 3 hours work! I tried calling Danny on SKYPE a couple of times throughout the day and finally late in the afternoon I caught him. We talked for over an hour and then Mike came home from work and we got to talk with him for a while also. It is so great to catch up with your kids. Mike in is the army and will be deployed soon, probably to Iraq. Eliza cooked us American chop suey for supper and it was delicious and we ate it while we watched the 1954 version of Dial M For Murder. Alfred Hitchcock is amazing!
Friday 07 October 2011
Yesterday was my second radiation treatment. I felt totally drained by the time I got home, but perked up a bit after a few hours. Lucky for me, (or lucky for them!) Eliza and John left me some chop suey – I thought about it all the way home and would have been pretty disappointed if it was all gone. Other than working and teaching and preparing a lesson – that was my day!
Saturday 08 October 2011
I guess Friday was pretty uneventful as I am having a difficult time thinking what I did outside of WGU. Ah yes, a couple of batches of indexing Maine Vital Records, an episode of NCIS with my husband, and one episode of Numb3rs and two of Murder, She Wrote with Eliza. (That was way too much TV!) Eliza cooked pizza for supper and John went grocery shopping for me. Well, maybe I can accomplish more today. :)
